Will Smith Turns Down “Independence Day” Sequel

Actor Will Smith has reportedly declined Fox’s offer to appear in the upcoming ‘Independence Day’ Sequel.

After spending several years looking to generate a sequel, director Roland Emmerich and co-writer and producer Dean Devlin are moving forward with production without Mr. Smith.

Roland and Dean are also ‘allegedly’ looking to cast a young Hollywood rising actor to take the lead role.

Filmmakers hope to premiere the sequel in theaters for the 4th of July weekend in 2016, which marks the 20th anniversary of the 1996 original film.

The movie — grossed over $811 million worldwide — launched Smith on a trajectory to become the world’s most bankable movie star.
