Music executive Scooter Braun believes Kanye West is way smarter than people think. The high-profile businessman has talked about his relationship with Yeezy in 2018.

In a new interview (starting at 42-minute mark), Braun updated fans on where things stood with Yeezy months after getting called out by him on Twitter.

“I always get nervous when explaining Kanye because only Kanye can explain Kanye. Look, he’s my friend and I’m his advisor. He’s always hated the word ‘manager’ and that’s why we’ve gotten along. I hate the word ‘manager.’ It’s not what I do. I don’t manage artists, I partner with them. If an artist tells me, ‘You work for me, you’re my manager,’ I tell them, ‘F*ck off, we’re done.’ … Kanye was frustrated and wanted me to work for him and I told him that doesn’t work for me. So for two weeks, we kind of separated but it wasn’t any ill-will. Then some crazy stuff happened in those few weeks and we had a conversation. He said, ‘Things have gone well for two years, we should keep it going,’ and we agreed the issue was ‘manager.’ He’s very smart because even though he tweeted ‘I can’t have a manager. I don’t want a manager. I can’t be managed,’ four hours later he said ‘Scooter Braun is a genius. He’s more than a manager.’ That made me feel very good about myself and opened the door for me to work with him. So yes, we still work together and I’m kind of in the same role. I’m more of an advisor and it was about the wording more than anything. I know his heart. He has a heart for people.” (Midem)

Scooter also discussed why he believes Ye is a creative genius.

“He’s said publicly he suffers from bi-polar disorder. He yells it on his album it’s a superpower. Anyone who has suffered from bi-polar knows you can get manic. You can say things but there’s no a malicious bone in his body. That’s not who he is. I can tell you from working with him he’s 100 percent deserving of the word creative genius. He is truly a genius. He’s the one artist I’ve worked with who makes me say, ‘D*mn, why didn’t I come up with that?’ Who knows how long it will last this time.” (Midem)

Back in April, reports surfaced about Kanye getting rid of key management including Braun.

We’re told Kanye gave his team an ultimatum — work with him full-time or not at all. The various members of his team, including his lawyers and manager Scooter Braun, weren’t up for playing ball. Scooter has a million irons in the fire and working for Kanye full-time is out of the question. (TMZ)

Once the news went viral, Kanye hopped on Twitter to confirm he didn’t have management.
